The texture of the brick at Aravena’s structure at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas is meant to represent a diamond or a geode, leaving the exterior rough while revealing a smooth glass interior. The texture was achieved by breaking bricks in half and leaving the rough broken edge facing outward.

Chris informed us that all the wrapping branches on this tree, which we have seen all over Miami, act as a parasite on the host tree underneath. Eventually the host tree dies and becomes an empty inhabitable center. -Ilana
The hotel utilizes a curved wall to form an exterior space and to gain views. The interior has a staircase similar to this one that was meant to put the women on display as they descended the stairs. -Ilana
